How do you use social media?

Social media or socmed changed our lives, how we look at the world, our lives, and that of others. Most of us have online platforms where we show parts of ourselves. But, through the years, socmed has become more harsh than we think it is. So, a lot of masking our true selves happen to present only the best part, that, taken to the extreme, it has become a cause for mental health issues. This is especially true among the young people who are spending so much time online. Envying the nice things others have and are doing causes depression, even alienation, as people have to pretend to look good online. The real reason which is to improve our connection with each other is no longer the reason most people are in socmed. It has become a space to rant, to boast, to flaunt, to share fake news, that at the end of the day, a lot of negativity has invaded our system with or without our consent, sometimes not even realizing it. Toxicity is everywhere at socmed.

But yes, if used properly, socmed offers a lot of potential for connection, for spreading good news and positivity. There are also many good things that we can still find, but we have to decide what and where to look for nuggets of beautiful things, which are often buried in a sea of negativities. This is where I choose to be. I would like to contribute to spreading good things, soulful things, those that matter, those that help us remember how beautiful we are, how much good life offers, that there is still “some good in this world worth fighting for” (my favorite Lord of the Rings line uttered by Sam to Frodo). This is how I use my socmed. Let us fight for the good, beautiful, and the truth in our online and offline lives.
